Taking a rental car abroad — how to do it properly

One of the most frequent questions we get: "Can I take the car to Austria / Slovakia / Croatia?" Short answer: yes — but it matters how.

The most important rule: you need permission

Taking a rental car across the border is only permitted with the lessor's permission. You have two options:
